Bio

Dhr. Prof. Dr. J.R. (Joris) de Groot is cardioloog/electrofysioloog en hoogleraar Cardiale Electrofysiologie en Atriumfibrilleren aan het Amsterdam UMC /Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Hij promoveerde in 2001 bij het Laboratorium voor Experimentele Cardiologie op het proefschrift “Genesis of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias during the delayed phase of acute ischemia. Role of cellular electrical coupling and myocardial heterogeneities”, over het mechanisme van kamerfibrilleren tijdens het acute myocardinfarct, en werd vervolgens in het AMC tot cardioloog en electrofysioloog opgeleid.

Hij houdt zich zowel bezig met de implantatie van pacemakers en ICDs als met catheter- en chirurgische ablatie van ritmestoornissen.

Hij werd in 2017 benoemd tot hoogleraar en geeft leiding aan de klinische onderafdeling Electrofysiologie en de Atriumfibrilleren Research Group. Op het gebied van congenitale hartziekten heeft de preventie van plotse hartdood zijn warme belangstelling.
